8 Ways To Overcome Negative Thoughts

Negative thoughts drain you of energy and keep you from being in the present moment. 

The more you give in to your negative thoughts, the stronger they become.

This is why we will go through 8 ways to overcome your negative thoughts.

As well, you can merge them because they are for the most part easy to do.

1 | Find what’s good

In any situation, you can look for the lesson. The pain and discomfort sometimes blind us from everything else. But can always extract a lesson from a situation. Learn from your errors as we say!

Change your perspective. Everyone has a different look at things, and situations.

Sometimes you’ll need to speak to other people to see other perspectives of the same situation.

Changing your perspective of how you see something can be a wonderful help in your life. 

Furthermore, you can ask yourself some questions like:

What’s one thing I can learn from this?

What’s one good thing about this situation?

2 | Replace The Negativity In Your Surrounding

Find positive people. The more you surround yourself with positive, high energy people, the less room you have for those who are negative. 

Do what you love. It will allow you to be positive, joyful, and happy.

Love where you live. It can be your neighbor, your city… We all have our reason but if you don’t like where you live it will not have a good impact on your morale. 

Get involved. You can do some charity work. Getting involved with a non-profit, with the only objective of helping people, discovering new things.

You’ll get a positive impact on what’s surrounding you, and your days will be different. 

3 | Stop Making Mountains Out Of A Molehill

This is important to not create a problem where there are none or very small issues that you can fix. 

Quickly stop and reexamine your thoughts. As a big problem is starting to form in your thoughts stop it. Reflect on those negative thoughts that are starting to form. 

You can also be conscious of the fact that your problem is nothing compared to someone else. 

Finally, focus your thoughts on what you already have, on the positive in your life. Because by seeing the negative you will destroy yourself.

4 | Go Workout

It often works well to change your headspace by using your body.

Even if it’s only for 10 minutes you should do some workout to think about something else and feel better after it. 

It helps you to realize inner tension and worries. 

Furthermore, it makes your mind focused once again.

5 | Be Grateful For The Things That You Already Have

Sometimes, it’s easier to focus on what we don’t have, rather than what we do have. It’s important to take time out and remember all the things to be thankful for that many of us take for granted.

Among these things that you already have there are probably health, good friends, money (even a little), your parents, a partner, a home, a bed, the ability to read, a car… 

We can do a long list of these things that you already have. A lot of people don’t have even 1 thing of these.

Additionally, it’s often these people that complain the less. 

6 | Never Play The Victim

To overcome negative thoughts you need to adopt a self-responsibility way of thinking.

Stop playing the victim, you can overcome your problems, your negative thoughts. You create your negative thoughts, they are here for a reason. 

Therefore, you need to stop making the victim and make something of them. 

Tell this to yourself:

There is always a way out. I will always have the choice to make change happen if need be.

As we said before, some people have more problems in their life that keep fighting to overcome them.  So you can do it too.

7 | Smile

First, smiling does help change your mood and relieve stress.

Secondly, smiling can trick the body into helping you elevate your mood because the physical act of smiling activates neural messaging in your brain. 

A simple smile can trigger the release of neural communication boosting neuropeptides as well as mood-boosting neurotransmitters like dopamine and serotonin. 

Think of smiling like a natural anti-depressant.

Finally, smiling has also a wonderful impact on the surrounding people. 

8 | Meditation / Yoga

The interest of meditating would be to have time with yourself and what surrounds you. 

A time when you can take a break from all your negative thoughts, your problems. 

It will bring you back to the now. The only moment, the most important moment.

When you always list your negative thoughts it becomes heavy. Taking a break from them can be extremely positive on your morale.
